August 15th Update

As we look across the meadows we see that summer is almost over and harvest season will soon be upon us. It is with grateful hearts that our thoughts turn to our wonderful visitors and friends here on Early Work Mercantile. 'Harvest Scare the Crows' Punch Needle on Antique Bread Board

Scarecrow Hobo Jo was left alone minding the pumpkin patch. Under a golden harvest moon and dark spooky trees he decided to carve himself a Jack-O-Lantern to help keep watch and scare off those pesky, scary crows!

Stitched in antique harvest colors with Valdani hand dyed thread on a gray wool background. Displayed on an antique bread board with a great grungy time-worn patina and lots of knife marks. The board is solid and has an old dry surface. The shine in the photo on the back of the board is glare from my camera.

A rustic skeleton key and prim tag are tied to the handle with old twine.

Approximately 6 by 12 inches.

Spoken for, thank you Cecilia!

'Mr. Iggy' Hooked Rug on Linen with Hanger

Mr. Iggy is dressed up for Halloween. Of course no one will recognize him as the local alley cat now that he is in his dandy costume including top hat, bow tie and cane. Along with Edgar, his pet crow, he has gathered up his old Jack-O-Lantern candy container and is ready for a night on the town tick-'r-treating!

The photos really do not capture the charm of this special rug. The tea colored background is darker and more nuanced than showing in the photos.

Hooked with hand dyed wool in prim fall colors. The background is a dark mottled tea, the border is antique black.

Mr. Iggy hangs from a small oak limb gathered here in Colorado's high country. Rusty baling wire from our farm is hand twisted to complete the hanger. A prim tag with a rustic skeleton key hangs from one end of the oak hanger.

The hanger is removable if you wish to place this charming rug on a table or sideboard, throw it on a bench or antique trunk.

In a wonderful size that makes it easy to incorporate in a large variety of places, this piece measures approximately 12" by 20" without the hanger and 15" by 28" with the hanger. I'm sure you will be pleased!

'The Witching Hour' Punch Needle Hornbook

It's the witching hour. Against a backdrop of a spectacular harvest moon, jack-o-lantern silhouette  and spooky trees, an old witch flies across an autumn sky enjoying a midnight flight with her beloved bats. She has been waiting all year for this special treat!

Worked up with hand dyed Valdani thread in prim oranges, old mustard and antique blacks on premium weavers cloth.

The hornbook was painted with chalk paint, given a special antique comb finish then carefully aged and distressed.

A rustic skeleton key and hand made and aged prim tag are tied around the knob with old twine.

Approximately 6 1/2 by 9 inches.

Spoken for, thank you Cecilia!

'I Hope You Dance' Hand Painted Witch Sign

Under a pale October moon a happy witch dances joyfully with two kittens at her side. Halloween bats are gathering to join in on the fun! There isn't a frightful thing here!

This sentiment says it all - I hope you dance! Enjoy the beauty and mystery of life and love those who gather around you!

Hand drawn and painted with milk paint on an old pine board cut into the shape of an old tavern sign, then aged and distressed.  Ready for hanging.

Approximately 10 by 12 inches. A perfect display size.

Preseason sale - 28.00 including priority travel fare.

Thank you kindly for stopping in, we appreciate it so very much!
Wishing you and yours many blessings!
